Penn Hosts Brown Saturday For Homecoming

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Saturday is homecoming for the Penn Quakers as they welcome the Brown Bears to Franklin Field for an Ivy League match-up.
The Quakers are now 1-5 (1-2 in the Ivy) after losing last week on the road at Yale, 43-21, as the Bulldogs rolled up 605 yards of total offense.
“That was a very impressive offensive team,” Penn head coach Al Bagnoli tells KYW Newsradio, “with a terrific combination of balance in the running game, really skilled receivers outside, a very mature and big offensive line and a quarterback who is multi-dimensional.”
The Quakers had their share of success moving the football in that game as well. Sophomore quarterback Alek Torgersen threw for 286 yards and 3 touchdowns. Two of the scores went to senior wide receiver Connor Scott, who finished with 9 catches for 167 yards. The other touchdown was caught by senior Spencer Kulcsar. Bagnoli says Kulcsar has done a nice job as a pass catcher this season after a position switch.

“We asked him to move from tailback to a slot receiver,” Bagnoli says. “He was great in handling the transition. He’s a dynamic kid, we still have to figure out ways to get the ball to him more often in space. But he’s really adapted to that position very well.”
Kulcsar leads the Quakers this season with 35 catches for 429 yards. The touchdown against Yale was his first of the season.
Brown is 3-3 this season and, like Penn, they are 1-2 in the Ancient 8. That league win came last week as Brown took it to Cornell up in Providence, 42-16.
“They’ve always had really good schematics on offense,” Bagnoli says. “They’ve always had kids who could make big plays at wide receiver and they’ve always been stout and tough on defense. So that formula hasn’t changed, but they’re dealing with some young kids.”
Bagnoli expects a tough match-up.
“The team that plays the hardest and plays the toughest on Saturday will win the game,” Bagnoli says.
Last season Brown shut out the Quakers up in Rhode Island, 27-0.
Kickoff on Saturday at Franklin Field is set for 1:00pm.
