MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Halloween is the biggest holiday for candy sales, and the National Confectioners Association expects candy sales to top more than $2.5 billion.

A lot of that will end up in the hands of kids on Friday, which could mean bad news for their teeth.

Still, there are ways to have fun on Halloween while keeping healthy.

Dr. Jess Prischmann, a WCCO-TV medical contributor,  has some simple tips:

– Avoid sticky candies, “particularly sticky, sour candies”

– Brush and floss daily

– Chose one time of day to eat candy

– And donate any extra or unused candy

The main reason to avoid sticky candies, according to Prischmann, is because the sugar sticks to teeth. Sour candy is particularly bad because of its high acid content, which can damage tooth enamel.
