DALLAS, Texas (AP) – Prosecutors have dropped felony charges against a Dallas slaughterhouse and one of its executives that arose from the dumping of pig’s blood into a creek along the Trinity River near the slaughterhouse.

State District Judge Fred Tinsley dismissed the charges against Columbia Packing Co. and Vice President Carl Ondrusek Tuesday at the request of prosecutors.

Instead, Columbia pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor, admitted to violating the water code with an unauthorized discharge and agreed to pay a $100,000 fine.

Charges against another vice president, Rusty Ondrusek, were dropped last month.

The company had been accused of dumping industrial waste into Cedar Creek and tampering with evidence.

Columbia officials have admitted that their plant spilled contaminants but only by accident.
