It appears the Albuquerque area has slowly but steadily gained some traction in its small business fundamentals.

BizBuySell.com has compiled its Q3 data on the sales of small businesses in the metro area, and it shows a steady strengthening compared to last year. Based on 49 business listings, one of the main takeaways from the Q3 data is the median asking price of $324,000 for a businesses for sale. That's an increase of $92,000 from one year ago. It's likely a sign, say analysts, of sellers beginning to come out of hiding because of an improving market, or at least a perception of an improving one.

Median small business revenues for Q3 were $425,685, up from $387,684 one year ago. The median cash flow was $103,000 versus $98,360 last year.

BizBuySell analysts said the Albuquerque metro data reflects some national trends. Although economic recovery still continues after years of flat growth, the fundamentals are in place for more activity. The group says that as buyer financing becomes more available, transactions should increase. And consumer spending-related businesses are generally recovering more quickly, like restaurants and retail, while manufacturing is taking more time.

Although the year-over-year comparisons show improvements, the Q3 data shows a slight decline from Q2. In Q2, the median asking price was $331,000 — but that was a big improvement from Q2 of 2013, when it was $239,000.

The median revenue of an area business in Q2 was $492,019, an increase from $425,685 in the same quarter in 2013. Median cash flow in Q2 was $121,822 compared to $100,000 in 2013.
