For the first time, Halloween weekend has been added to the list of “no refusal” periods for suspected drunken drivers, the Tarrant County district attorney’s office announced.
“Don’t allow your Halloween celebration to turn into a real nightmare,” Assistant District Attorney Richard Alpert said in a news release. “Have a designated driver and drink responsibly.”From 9:30 p.m. Friday to 5:30 a.m. Sunday, law enforcement agencies across the county will be prepared to use search warrants to force suspected drunken drivers to submit to blood tests if they refuse to give breath tests.Nine holidays or special events are already on the “no refusal” list, including every weekend during the upcoming Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, the news release said.The names and ages of drivers arrested and subsequently charged with driving while intoxicated during no-refusal periods will be published on the district attorney’s website. — Monica S.
