Weekend Challenge: 5x5 - Your Great Outdoors

Hey there, you lovable lot,

It's time once again for a Vimeo Classic: the 5x5!

Just in case you haven't participated before, let's go through the basics. All you've got to do is create a 25-second video composed of five 5-second clips, using only natural sound, based on the Challenge theme. This week, the theme is "Your Great Outdoors," so get yourself out from under that roof and into some wilderness to show us what the great outdoors mean to you.

This project is great for practicing new techniques, and focusing in on something that you might not spend time on otherwise. Think about how you could use different aspects of moviemaking, like transitions, unique shots, and natural sound. There's plenty of beauty and lots to tell in only 25 seconds!

The Rules:

+ Create a 5x5 about your idea of the great outdoors! Remember that only videos made specifically for this Challenge will be considered.

+ Use only natural sound — using an external mic is fine, but let whatever was happening while you were filming be heard!

+ Add this at the end of your video's description: "Created for the Weekend Challenge: vimeo.com/groups/weekendchallenge"

+ Upload and post your video to the Weekend Challenge Group by ***Tuesday, August 5th, 2014*** at 11:59 PM (EST). Just follow the screenshots below:

The Prizes:

+ The winner will receive a Challenge badge on their video, and free Vimeo Plus account for one year! If you're already a Plus member, you'll get another year tacked on to the end of your current subscription.

+ The runner-up will receive an extra 3GB of upload space in their weekly quota!

All videos must be approved by the Vimeo Staff before appearing in the Group, so don't worry if your video doesn't show up at first; we'll get to it!

Whoops! I added "Created for the Weekend Challenge: vimeo.com/groups/weekendchallenge"; at the end of my video in a five second title! My bad. I realize I can submit more than one, but can I resubmit? Submit a new one and delete the old one? Feeling dumb!

Hey guys and gals! I've never entered the weekend challenge before. I'm a member of the group and I'm ready to upload but I'm not seeing the screenshots shown above for the challenge entry. Can anybody clue me in? Thanks in advance!

Is it okay to add filler content at the beginning/end (for example a title or just a set of black frames) or should it be strictly 5 clips showing for a total of 25 seconds?

I added mine last night, first time here too so I don't know if everything went well but the box for "Vimeo Weekend Challenge" under "Collections" is marked... vimeo.com/102485013

Anyone know how to tell if you've successfully sent in video?

It does say this above: "All videos must be approved by the Vimeo Staff before appearing in the Group, so don't worry if your video doesn't show up at first; we'll get to it!"

But I can't tell if me checking the group box didn't work or if they haven't approved it yet. It's here: vimeo.com/102472807

Yeah, I have the same problem as everybody else here. There should really be some kind of feature on Vimeo for notifying a user when a video has been added/accepted to a group. It's a bit tedious to have to refresh the page and look through all the new videos in the group all the time.

I just received an email saying that my video has been added. I guess it takes them a while to manually add each video. Gotta be patient!

Hey thanks for posting this. It's my first time adding something so I wasn't sure if there was something like that. Makes sense they must get a bagillion and need to go through them.
