On November 4, 2014, residents of the city of Denton will decide whether to ban all hydraulic fracturing within the city limits. The ballot measure was proposed by anti-fracking activists via initiative petition, and approved for the ballot by the Denton City Council. The ban would not apply to conventional oil and gas production. The Denton city council has imposed a moratorium on fracking until the ballot measure is decided.

In our view, this proposition is misguided and could ultimately result in unfair burdens for local taxpayers, unjust restrictions and penalties for a valued Texas industry and unprecedented risks for the Denton County economy.

New Economic Study from The Perryman Group Proves Barnett Shale is Thriving

A new economic impact study of the fiscal contributions of the Barnett Shale was released today. The study, commissioned by the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce and conducted by The Perryman Group (TPG) of Waco, reports that despite reduced drilling and fluctuating natural gas prices, Bartnett Shale production increased by $700 million since the last study was conducted in 2011.

Barnett Shale economic impact stays at high level

FORT WORTH — Despite the recession, fluctuating natural gas prices and a decline in the number of drilling rigs, the Barnett Shale natural gas field still contributes $11.8 billion a year to the North Texas economy, according to a new economic study.

The analysis by The Perryman Group in Waco released Wednesday also states that Barnett Shale-related business activity accounts for about 108,000 jobs and translates into annual tax receipts of $480.6 million for local governments and $644.7 million for the state.
