Mark A. Burroughs - PartnerMr. Burroughs began his practice of law in Denton in the mid-80′s and formed the law firm of Sawko & Burroughs, LLP with Mr. Gregory Sawko in 1994. The firm name changed in 2008 to the Sawko & Burroughs, P.C.

Mr. Burroughs has been very active in the community for many years. Mr. Burroughs is currently serving his second term as the Mayor of Denton. Mark is currently seeking his third term as Mayor of Denton.

Prior to becoming Mayor, Mark was the Mayor Pro Tem of Denton from 2002 to 2004, and Denton City Councilman at Large from 1998 to 2004.

Mark and his wife Annie Burroughs have two children, Mark at Baylor University and Maddie a Graduate of Baylor University.

EDUCATION

Mark Burroughs graduated fourth in his class of 526 out of Klein High School in the Houston area. Mr. Burroughs received his Bachelor of Business Administration for Select Students degree from Stephen F. Austin State University, graduating with honors in three years with three majors (business, political science, history). He also served as student government president during his time at Stephen F. Austin. Mr. Burroughs then obtained his law degree from the University of Texas School of Law.

Professionally, he is licensed to practice in all Texas Courts, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas, the United States Court of Federal Claims and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Mr. Burroughs is a member of State Bar of Texas, Denton County Bar Association and the U. S. Court of Federal Claims Bar Association.

Outside of public service, Mark is often in a leadership role or is otherwise a significant contributor to the numerous organizations and committees in which he has served as board member and/or officer and volunteer, and some of the many organizations in which he has served include: Denton Chamber of Commerce, Greater Denton Arts Council, Leadership Denton, Denton County Transportation Authority, North Texas Clean Air Coalition, North Texas Clean Air Steering, Regional Transportation Council, Denton Arts & Jazz Festival, Dallas Regional Mobility Coalition Western Metroplex Mobility Coalition, Denton Rotary Club, Denton Citizens Bond Committee, Denton City Council Tree Preservation, Denton ISD Adopt-A-School and PTA, Denton Humanitarian Association, Inc., Cumberland Presbyterian Children’s Home, CASA, and KERA.
