Active drilling rigs in the Barnett Shale were down by four to 29 this week, reported RigData. Jack and Wise counties were the busiest with six rigs each, followed by Tarrant with five and Montague with four. A year ago the count stood at 26.
Nationally, Baker Hughes Inc. said there were 1,866 rigs, up nine from a week earlier. There were 1,536 rigs seeking crude oil, up eight, 326 seeking natural gas, up one, and four miscellaneous, unchanged. A year ago there were 1,771.

I can't believe they have 1,866 rigs. That must have taken a long time to expand the company so far. How long has the company been around?
