Stop Fracking Air Pollution, Fight Climate Change

Oil and gas drilling and fracking is the second largest source of industrial climate pollution in the country.

Methane – the principle component of natural gas – is 86 times more polluting than carbon dioxide. When methane is released into the air, so are a host of other air pollutants, like volatile organic compounds that contribute to asthma, or benzene, a carcinogen.

Last June, President Obama said, “curbing methane emissions is critical to our overall effort to address climate change.” But the Obama Administration has yet to take action to help protect public health and our climate from the destructive impacts of fracking-enabled air pollution.

The Obama administration has the power to curb air pollution from oil and gas operations, but it is up to you to convince them that strong regulations are needed now – not years from now.

TAKE ACTION: Tell President Obama, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Department of Interior (DOI) to prevent wasteful methane leaks and to protect clean air. Tell them to directly regulate methane now.
