Issues That Matter. Close To Home.
A reporting project of NPR member stations.
The Network
StateImpact reporters in six states examine how state issues and policy affect people’s lives. Each state team has a website dedicated to accountability reporting on a focused topic. Stories are featured on local public radio stations and national NPR shows and through digital and print collaborations.
Education
Florida, Indiana and Ohio cover the rapidly changing education landscapes in their states. Issues they cover regularly include education standards and curriculum, student testing, teacher pay and evaluation, school choice and higher education.
Energy
Pennsylvania and Texas examine their states’ energy economies. Reporters look at how oil, natural gas and renewable resources are developed and regulated, with special attention to the relationship between energy and environmental issues.
Impact
On-Air
StateImpact reporters produce in-depth reports and series heard regularly on public media stations throughout their states. Stories with a national significance are shared with NPR shows, including Morning Edition and All Things Considered.
Online
StateImpact teams are trained to dive deep into their topics and engage with communities using a variety of digital tools and social platforms. They apply a data-driven approach to examining policy issues and publish maps, charts and source documents to illuminate their reporting.
Media Collaborations
StateImpact’s commitment to engaging with communities extends beyond its own websites. Our reporters partner with digital and print media organizations including the Miami Herald, Columbus Dispatch, and Texas Tribune to pursue joint investigations and increase the reach of their coverage.
