The Dallas Entrepreneur Center and the AngelSummit are joining with Startup Jackpot, a grassroots startup competition, to inject more than $35,000 worth of prizes into a Texas company.

The Jackpot will award more than $10,000 in a non-equity grant and $25,000 worth of prizes. Dallas-based Trailblazer Capital is underwriting the funds with support from local and national community leaders, investors and advocates.

Startup Jackpot will be accepting applications through Nov. 4 from startups based in Texas that have raised less than $500,000 in outside funding. Startups must have a functional prototype or minimal viable product that solves a problem in the market, have a primarily Internet-based distribution system and show traction in early revenue and customers.

On Nov. 10, Startup Jackpot will announce the 10 finalists, which will then give a two-minute pitch at the Pre-AngelSummit Startup Workshop at the DEC on Nov. 12. The audience will narrow the finalists down to five. The following day, the five startups will have four minutes to pitch and will host a question-and-answer session from the judges and audience. The judges will award the top three companies.

The first national summit on angel investing, AngelSummit.io, is expected to attract more than 200 industry and community experts for the event slated to begin Nov. 12 at the DEC. The conference will feature speakers including Dave McClure of 500 Startups; Mark Kvamme of Drive Capital; Scott Case of Main Street Genome, formerly with the Startup America Partnership; and Paul Singh of Disruption Corp.
