The oil and gas industry and its supporters have spent nearly $700,000 in their efforts to defeat the Denton frack ban on Nov. 4, according to the latest expense reports.

Heavy hitters Chevron, Occidental Petroleum, XTO Energy, Devon Energy and EnerVest all contributed the bulk of the money toward the Denton Taxpayers for a Strong Economy, the group aimed at defeating the ban.

The group reported spending $344,446, with $344,244 going to the Eppstein Group, a public relations and advertising firm based in Fort Worth. That includes $142,652 for prime-time television advertisements that have run during NFL games.

Supporters of the ban have raised nearly $75,000 total for the Pass the Ban group, aimed at passing the frack ban.

Earthworks made an in-kind donation of $10,344 for postage for mailers. The Washington D.C.-based environmental group has contributed about $40,000 to the election so far.
