Chris Berry of Valley View works toward a time of 4.5 seconds for the win in steer wrestling Saturday night at the North Texas Fair and Rodeo’s PRCA rodeo.

A standing-room-only crowd packed the stands for the second performance of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association rodeo at the North Texas Fair and Rodeo on Saturday night at the North Texas Fairgrounds.

The steer wrestling competition saw some of the fastest times posted thus far. Chris Berry of Valley View turned in a time of 4.5 seconds to claim the win.

Justin’s Sterling Wallace took second at 4.9, and right behind Wallace was Dean Stermer of McKinney with a 5.2-second run to take the third spot.

In bareback bronc riding, the cowboys fared better than they did in Friday’s first performances, with three cowboys posting scores. Coming in first place with a score of 77 was Dustin Jackson of Mabank aboard No. 77 Blue Thunder. Placing second on No. D90 Spitfire was Arizona’s Shon Gibson at 73. Rounding out the top three was Tolman Moore of Las Cruces, New Mexico, with his score of 61 on No. H70 Summer Wages.

Saddle bronc riding was a one-man show, with only Garet Aldridge of Huntsville making a qualified ride, scoring a 63.

In tie-down roping, Kiel Rowen of O’Brien came out on top with his time of 9.9 seconds. Jeff Chapman of Athens placed second with a time of 10.1, followed by Adam Gray of Seymour at 11.9 to take the third-place money.

Only two teams were successful in posting a time in the team roping, with Tate Kirschenschlager and Chad Williams of Stephenville taking the top spot with their time of 10.4 seconds. Second place went to the team of Dekalb’s Tyler Domingue and Cory Smothers of Henryville, Indiana, with a time of 15.4.

In ladies barrel racing, Pilot Point’s Sherri Barnes recorded the fastest time of the night with her run of 17.37 seconds. Placing second with a 17.45-second run was Stephenville’s Shelby Herrman. A 17.54 was good enough for Gayle Jones of Decatur to take third place.

Hillsboro bull rider Cody Rostockyj has been on a roll lately in PRCA competition, winning several rodeos in the past few weeks.

He continued that streak with a win Saturday night, scoring an 87 aboard No. K92 Cat Can Do Si. The only other qualified ride was a 71 posted by Stephenville’s Tyler Ray Taylor on No. 00 No Name.
