There is one fewer better-burger restaurant in Columbus.

Greenwood Village, Colorado-based Red Robin Gourmet Burgers Inc. closed its Red Robin's Burger Works at 1708 N. High St. near Ohio State University this month.

The brand was a fast-casual test for Red Robin (NASDAQ:RRGB), which is better known for its more than 500 sit-down burger joints around the country. It was meant to compete with the likes of Five Guys Burgers and Fries and Smashburger, which wasn't in the market when Burger Works opened in 2011, but arrived in Central Ohio last year.

Red Robin declined to share details about why it closed the OSU restaurant, which was the second Burger Works ever, opening just after the Denver prototype.

The brand's website lists seven other Burger Works in Colorado, Chicago and Washington D.C.
