The ’90s are alive in Dallas this week: Salt-N-Pepa, Kid ‘n Play, Blues Traveler and more

This weekend is just about as close as you can get to going back to the past without a time machine. Need evidence? Here are five ways to party like it’s 1990-something.

Salt-N-Pepa: When I heard this show was happening, I was hit with a wave of nostalgia for rollerskating to “Push It.” Yeah, that song is from the ’80s, but the potential for hearing ’90s gems “Shoop” and “Whatta Man” on the bustling outdoor patio at the Rustic on Halloween night? Very necessary.

Kid ‘n Play: The hip-hop duo of Christopher “Kid” Reid and Christopher “Play” Martin is hosting the Halloween House Party at Winston’s Supperclub. Just a warning, Kid’s hair isn’t quite like it’s used to be.

Slipknot and Korn: There’ll be trick-or-treating and kids under 12 get in free with an adult (yes, both of those are really happening) at a Prepare for Hell tour Halloween show featuring new versions of metal band Slipknot’s trademark creepy masks, as well as nu metal from Korn.

Blues Traveler and Gin Blossoms: I’m not giving you a run-around, you can take a free musical trip down memory lane Saturday with these two bands, the headliners for the fifth annual Festival at the Switchyard in downtown Carrollton. The past is gone, but something might be found to take its place (OK, even I know this is too much).

Mötley Crüe: The band rocks the new Gas Monkey Live in a Saturday concert held in conjunction with a Dodge and Plymouth car show.
