Blotter: Police make arrest after seeing seat belt violation

A gold-colored Chevrolet sport utility vehicle was stopped by police Monday after officers noticed the driver was not wearing a seat belt.

Denton police said that they observed a 28-year-old woman not wearing a seat belt and initiated a traffic stop while they were on patrol in the 3900 block of Morse Street.

The woman was found to have numerous outstanding warrants — including four from Denton — according to police records.

She was charged with failure to maintain financial responsibility and driving with an invalid license and was brought to the city jail, police said.

Other reports

2400 block of West Prairie Street — A 20-year-old man reported his wallet was stolen from his apartment late Monday night, according to Denton police.

He told police his wallet had been lying by a window when it was taken. Reports said the window screen had been punched out.

No arrests have been made.

300 block of Withers Street — A passenger in a vehicle was arrested on a charge of possession of a dangerous drug following a traffic stop Monday, Denton police said.

According to reports, an officer stopped a vehicle for expired registration and after a consensual search of the vehicle, the officer found that the 24-year-old male passenger was in possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription.

From 7 a.m. Monday to 7 a.m. Tuesday:

Denton County Sheriff’s Office dispatchers handled 796 service and officer-initiated calls for the agencies they serve. Seventeen people were booked into Denton County Jail.

Denton police handled 326 service and officer-initiated calls and posted 22 reports online.

Denton firefighters responded to 18 medical calls and assisted one agency.
