MARCH PERMITS TO DRILL
The Commission issued a total of 1,995 original drilling permits in March 2011 compared to 1,739 in March 2010. The March total included 1,731 permits to drill new oil and gas wells, 61 to re-enter existing well bores, and 203 for re-completions. Permits issued in March 2011 included 550 oil, 196 gas, 1,068 oil and gas, 94 injection, one service and 86 other permits.
FEBRUARY CRUDE OIL PRODUCTION
Texas preliminary February 2011 crude oil production averaged 882,550 barrels daily, down from the 919,196 barrels daily average of February 2010.
The preliminary Texas crude oil production figure for February 2011 is 24,711,386 barrels, down from 25,737,494 barrels reported during February 2010.
MARCH OIL AND GAS COMPLETIONS
In March 2011, operators reported 518 oil, 334 gas, 37 injection and one other completion compared to 523 oil, 369 gas, 50 injection and four other completions during March 2010.
Total well completions for 2011 year to date are 2,148 down from 2,610 recorded during the same period in 2010.
Operators reported 560 holes plugged and zero dry holes in March 2011 compared to 467 holes plugged and one dry hole in March 2010.
FEBRUARY NATURAL GAS PRODUCTION
Texas oil and gas wells produced 472,883,565 Mcf (thousand cubic feet) of gas based upon preliminary production figures for February 2011 down from the February 2010 preliminary gas production total of 525,380,023 Mcf.
Texas production in February 2011 came from 140,688 oil wells and 91,193 gas wells.
