A 55-year-old man was arrested Saturday on charges of theft after allegedly walking out on his bar tab and stealing food items at another business, according to a police report.

Police were dispatched during the lunch hour to Rooster’s Roadhouse on Industrial Street after a caller told them a man had walked out without paying his bill at the bar. The suspect was described as an older white man with gray hair and beard, a gray shirt and blue jean shorts.

According to the report, an employee had approached the man to collect his bar tab when he said the guy sitting next to him would pay it and left the establishment.

When the employee tried to collect, the man who’d been sitting next to the suspect said he did not know the suspect, and he wasn’t paying for the bar tab.

Officers located the suspect leaving the Family Dollar store on Maple Street and arrested him. Upon searching his person, police found food items taken from the store hidden in his shorts, according to the report.

The suspect was booked on two counts of theft of property less than $1,500.
