Hickory St CIPDENTON, TX, Sept. 29, 2014 – The construction on the East Hickory Capital Improvement Project (CIP) continues to make progress.  The section of East Hickory from Bell Avenue to Railroad Street was reopened to traffic on Friday, Sept. 26, concluding Phase 2 of the project. As part of Phase 2, the contractor made adjustments to the water line and installed a major storm drain system, and Denton Municipal Electric (DME) replaced electric lines between Locust St. and Railroad Ave. Phase 1, which included modifications and re-construction of both sections of the Williams Square parking lot and drives, was completed in July. While all dates are subject to change, the following updated construction timeline is currently anticipated:

June–Dec: Contractor continues reconstruction of the E. Hickory St. pavement, sidewalks, and the beautification project related to the Hickory Grand Street project.

Phase 3A,B,C
Sept. – Mid-Oct.: Hickory St. drive lanes, from Bell Ave. to Oakland St., have been fully reconstructed and will reopen, weather permitting, on Oct. 3. The contractors are currently working on the north sidewalks and parking areas.

Phase 4A & B
Oct. - Jan:  The contractor will replace the storm system lines from Russell St. to the west, on the south side of E. Hickory, and will end just past the parking lot drive at 210 E. Hickory. Once the pipe work is complete, the ditch line will be temporarily resurfaced, and the roadway will reopen.

Phase 4B is scheduled to begin Oct. 16, with an expected completion date of Jan. 5, 2015. This phase is from Russell St. (on the north side of Hickory) to the Austin St. intersection. Phase 4B will address the remaining storm drain laterals and all paving, parking and sidewalk construction.
