GROUP OPPOSED TO DENTON DRILLING BAN
SHOWS 98% OF CONTRIBUTIONS FROM INDIVIDUALS AND BUSINESSES
PAYING TAXES IN DENTON

(Denton, TX) Denton Taxpayers for a Strong Economy PAC, the group opposing the Denton drilling ban, filed today their required 30-day campaign finance report.  The report discloses the group raised roughly  $230,000 and spent roughly $185,000.

“Ninety-eight percent of all our funding comes from individuals and businesses who pay taxes in the City of Denton,” said Bobby Jones, Treasurer of Denton Taxpayers for a Strong Economy.  “According to early reports, over 60% of the pro ban groups funding is coming from extreme liberal fringe groups out of Washington, D.C.”

In July the Denton Taxpayers group obtained over 8,000 signatures from Denton residents calling for support of responsible drilling and opposing and outright drilling ban.

The North Texas State Fair Association, the Denton Chamber of Commerce, the Denton County Republican Party, a former T.W.U. Chancellor and President, and others are taking a stand for responsible drilling and opposing a drilling ban.

“Every day, as people study and learn about this issue, more and more folks are opposed to an arbitrary drilling ban that will hurt our economy,” said Jones.

According to a resolution adopted by the North Texas State Fair Association, Inc., they are “OVERWHELMINGLY OPPOSED to the drilling ban proposition on the November 4th General Election ballot, and urge all Denton voters to vote AGAINST this proposition.”

The Denton Chamber of Commerce said, “Total revenue from natural gas royalties to individuals, businesses, the City of Denton and the University of North Texas will be subject to a significant decline if citizens vote to implement a permanent ban on hydraulic fracturing (fracking) within the city limits of Denton.”

With concerns about tax increases and property rights infringement, the Denton Republican Party unanimously adopted a resolution opposing tax increases, unconstitutional government property takings, and wasteful spending of millions of tax dollars that will ultimately occur if a ban were to pass.

“The Denton County Republican Party Precinct Chairs have made a clear statement in support of responsible drilling and I applaud them for doing their research on this very important issue and sending a strong message to the voters of Denton,” said Denton County Republican Chairman Dianne Edmondson.
