WHO WE ARE
Dallas/Fort Worth NORML is an educational organization dedicated to legalizing marijuana in Texas. We recognize that cannabis prohibition is bad for Texas, and we support the legalization of marijuana for medicinal purposes, responsible adult use, and the production of industrial hemp.
We are a registered Texas non-profit organization, which means that all of the money we raise goes toward furthering the cause of legalization. DFW NORML receives nearly all of its funding from our members, which means that without our loyal supporters in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, we wouldn't be here. We have monthly meetings that are open to the public, and we sponsor various events around the Metroplex on a regular basis.
We do not condone illegal activities. Rather, we aim to influence public opinion to the degree that the repeal of marijuana prohibition is inevitable, and the responsible use of cannabis by adults will no longer be considered a crime. We neither purchase nor sell marijuana or any other illegal drug. It is illegal to buy, sell or own any amount of marijuana in Texas. Every request we receive asking us to participate in illegal activity takes resources away from our fight to change the laws.
If you are interested in joining the fight, contact us. We are DFW NORML, and we are ending cannabis prohibition one Texan at a time.

HOW WE'RE LEGALIZING TEXAS
1. Back in 2012, along with the help of NORML-affiliated attorneys and a retired law professor, we drafted a 30+ page medical marijuana bill for Texas. Had this bill found a sponsor brave enough to introduce it this past session, it would have been one of the most comprehensive pieces of legislation the state of Texas has ever considered.
2. Our members drove to Austin and lobbied on at the Texas Capitol, even testifying on behalf of HB184 and HB594, two bills that would have been small victories for the Texas movement. We will continue to have lobbying days both in Austin and here in Dallas/Fort Worth in the coming months.
3. Back in June of 2013, we hosted a historic drug policy conference in downtown Fort Worth for two full days, where experts in drug policy and activism discussed alternatives to prohibition and the benefits of the cannabis plant. Over 150 Texans attended and speakers included Judge Jim Gray (2012 Libertarian VP Candidate), Keith Stroup (Founder of NORML) and Rob Kampia (Executive Director of the Marijuana Policy Project).
4. We've met with and interviewed dozens of celebrities about the topic of marijuana legalization, including musicians, comedians and politicians. We then make these interviews available for free on YouTube. Last year, we had over 33,000 hours of video watched from our YouTube channel.
5. We advertise the topic of marijuana law reform and legalization as often as possible, to our more than 10,000 combined followers on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. In fact, in September of 2013 we took out a full page ad in the Fort Worth Weekly to promote our organization and upcoming events. We interface with print, broadcast and internet media as often as possible to keep the topic of marijuana as mainstream as we can.
6. We host free, monthly meetings that are open to the public and feature patients, parents, medical professionals, attorneys, politicians, activists and other community leaders. These meetings empower our community to venture outside of the safety of their home to discuss legalization in a public forum and typically bring between 50-150 attendees on the last Saturday of every month.
7. We participate in as many community events as we can, setting up tables and sending out volunteers to educate Texans about our cause. You may have seen us at the Dallas Gay Pride Parade or even the St. Paddy's Day Parade! This gives people the opportunity to put on a NORML shirt and go into the world with the sole mission of spreading the good word about cannabis law reform.
8. We partner with businesses and organizations that want to support the cause and give them a means to do so that also benefits them by hosting events, such as the Global Marijuana March, which we've participated in for more than 5 years. Additionally, we've hosted live music events, disc golf tournaments and have our first poker tournament coming up in November.
9. DFW NORML has a large veteran community geared towards spreading awareness about the positive effects of cannabis and how it is effective treating the most common ailments our warriors come home with, including PTSD and chronic pain. Back in August, we fed 200 veterans and 100 volunteers at the Dallas VA Hospital and were immediately invited to come back anytime.
10. We're currently working on a legalization bill for Texas for the next legislative session.
