Rowlett, Josephine against Northeast Gateway

The Rowlett City Council plans to send a letter to regional transportation officials opposing a toll road from northeast Dallas County to Greenville in Hunt County.

The council decided late Tuesday to oppose the proposed Northeast Gateway and instead support finding funds for an Interstate 30 widening. The council is expected to formally oppose the project in a resolution at an upcoming meeting.

The Josephine City Council on Monday joined a growing list of cities voting to formally oppose the 28-mile road. Other cities opposing it include Fate, Lavon, Rockwall, Sachse and Wylie.

The North Central Texas Council of Governments last month recommended that its transportation council add the road to long-term transportation plans. Officials with the council say they are reviewing that recommendation and could change it this week.
