Dallas-area football players who might be hidden gems for recruiters

Duncanville receiver Xavier Brown (right) awaits a catch from quarterback Travon McWilliams while Mesquite’s Frederick Boyd supplies defense during Duncanville’s 51-27 victory over Mesquite on Sept. 12.

As part of a story I’m writing for Thursday, I asked coaches about some of the high school seniors in the Dallas area who they think should be more highly recruited. Here are some of the players mentioned by their own coaches and those who’ve coached against them:

Xavier Brown, Duncanville, WR
He has 42 catches for 19.1-yard avg., 7 TDs this season.

Dontae Duff, Mesquite Poteet, OL
6-2 and 305 pounds, 3-year starter, team captain, anchors line.

Markeith Miller, Garland, RB
At 5-9 and 205 pounds, he’s a load. 11 TDs this season, avg. 165 yards rushing per game

Clark Parr, SL Carroll, LB
Avg. more than 10 tackles per game for undefeated Dragons

Jalen Scott, North Mesquite, DL
Former LB, the 6-1, 240-pounder had 19 tackles, 2 forced fumbles in a game

Brooks Burgin, Highland Park, QB
Thrown for 1,485 yds., 13 TDs in six games this season

Jordan Hoy, Rockwall-Heath, QB
Doesn’t throw a lot, but is efficient. 65% completions, 9 TDs, O INTs

Tom Stewart, Parish Episcopal, QB
Great size — 6-3, 220 — and great stats this year: 70% completions, 16 TDs, 1 INT
