The New York Islanders have placed forward Colin McDonald on waivers.
McDonald, 30, has appeared in two games this season, registering no points. He played 70 games in 2013-14, scoring eight times with 10 assists.
McDonald is a pending unrestricted free agent with a cap hit of $637,500.
No word yet what the Isles intend to do with McDonald should he clear waivers, but an eventual assignment to AHL Bridgeport would be a good guess.
The Islanders have one forward, Michael Grabner (sports hernia surgery), on injured reserve. Based on the original estimate of 4-6 weeks, he’s expected to be out a few weeks longer.

You could see this one coming a mile away. I liked McDonald’s style, but there is too much talent to be held back. I don’t know why they are still holding a roster spot for Eric Boulton, but my guess is that he will be gone when Grabner gets back.

Great to see Anders will be joining the roster. He should add scoring and toughness.
