Jefferson County Circuit Judge Jim Hughey on Wednesday afternoon issued a ruling granting a dismissal of the lawsuit at the request of the hospital, the Urology Centers of Alabama, the Simon-Williamson Clinic and three doctors. Police at the scene said the victim and a companion were traveling on separate motorcycles at a high rate of speed when one of them crashed shortly after 7 p.m. Police said they were both in the inside westbound lane of Mastin Lake Road when they came up behind a pickup truck in their lane that was also moving westbound. Officers said the victim was going too fast and couldn't brake or get out of the way in time.
