General Motors Co. GM -0.26% is recalling nearly 3,200 natural gas-powered vans over an increased risk of fire or explosions, U.S. safety regulators said.

The recall covers certain Chevrolet Express vehicles made between Sept. 10, 2010, and April 28 this year, and GMC Savana vehicles made between May 23, 2011, and April 21 this year. The vans may leak gas from their compressed natural gas high-pressure regulators, according to GM and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The auto maker told NHTSA about the issue Aug. 13. GM said it would notify owners that dealers will replace the part for free.

Owners of the vans can contact Chevrolet’s customer service at 800-222-1020 or GMC’s customer service at 800-462-8782 for details. The recall number is 14321.

The latest disclosure comes as GM continues to deal with the aftermath of millions of recalls recently, including an ignition-switch defect that led to 19 deaths.
