Public Meeting: Fracking Risks to Drinking Water for Fairfax County & DC Metro Area
By Dusty Horwitt
February 12, 2014
Public Meeting Thursday, February 20, 2014, from 7:30pm to 9:00 p.m. at the Oakton Library, 10304 Lynnhaven Place, Oakton, VA. Refreshments will be served at 7pm.
The U.S. Forest Service may decide in the coming weeks whether to allow fracking and horizontal drilling for natural gas in the George Washington National Forest. Major D.C. area water providers, local governments, and conservation organizations have warned that fracking could threaten a range of resources--including the headwaters of the Potomac River, the D.C. area's major drinking source.
Learn about the proposal to frack in the George Washington National Forest, the source of drinking water for Fairfax and the rest of the DC metropolitan area, from Dusty Horwitt of Earthworks. This event is hosted by the Great Falls Group of the Virginia Chapter of the Sierra Club.
