Bruce Ratner selling majority stake in Barclays Center
The Barclays Center is for sale. Brooklyn Nets minority owner Bruce Ratner is putting his 55 percent stake on the market next week.
"Our goal is to identify a strategic partner as we continue to capitalize on the great performance of Barclays Center and the promise of Nassau Coliseum," Barclays Center spokesman Barry Baum said in a statement, via ESPN. "The current management team [Ratner and Barclays Center CEO Brett Yormark] will continue in its existing role."
The SportsBusiness Journal first reported this, and cited "investment banking sources" valuing the arena at $750 million. ESPN cited a source saying that it was worth $1.1 billion.
The Nets own the remaining 45 percent of Barclays Center, and Ratner still owns 20 percent of the team. He has been looking to sell that minority share for some time, though.
Mikhail Prokhorov is still the controlling owner of the Nets, but he is reportedly open to selling it. The franchise lost a reported $144 million in basketball activities in 2013-2014.
Brooklyn was in talks with the Guggenheim Partners about a "combination of assets,' but ESPN reported that there's nothing going on with that anymore.
