Chiefs' Jamaal Charles admits he was a little shaken up by hard hit

  •

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles was involved in a violent collision with Chargers cornerback Brandon Flowers while scoring a touchdown during Sunday's game. Both players were sent to the turf, but Flowers left with a concussion and Charles stayed in the game.

Though, Charles admitted during a radio interview with ESPN that maybe he was dealing with symptoms of a concussion.

"It definitely hurt," Charles said, per ProFootballTalk.com. "It's like, I woke up -- I mean, like, a couple plays later I was seeing light bulbs, like, light bulbs around my eyes, and I was trying to catch them. But I was in the game so I was like, ‘Alright, let's get the ball and run again.'"

Charles added he tried to avoid going through the league's concussion protocol. Charles left a Chiefs' playoff game in January due to a concussion.

"I didn't have a concussion, but it definitely was a hit that shocked me," he said. "But I don't think I had to go through the concussion protocols and all that. I didn't want to go through that again because of what happened in the playoffs. I was definitely fine, I think I came out pretty good."

Chiefs trainer Rick Burkholder told reporters Wednesday Charles was checked during Sunday's game for a concussion, and he passed baseline and impact tests. He added Charles passed multiple concussion tests Tuesday and has been cleared to practice Wednesday. Though, he added the team will continue to monitor his status.

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(7:21 pm ET) Seahawks tight end Zach Miller (ankle) has been ruled out for Week 8 against the Panthers.

Miller earned an "out" designation on the team's injury report Wednesday. He has played just three games, catching six passes for 76 yards.

Bills likely to insert Kraig Urbik into starting lineup at guard
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(6:36 pm ET) Bills coach Doug Marrone is exploring the option of making a change to the starting offensive line in an effort to improve the struggling unit, and inserting Kraig Urbik into the lineup ahead of rookie Cyril Richardson is the most likely move, BuffaloBills.com reports.

"He’s got to be ready to step up and go," Marrone said of Urbik. "If he gets the call on Sunday I’m sure he’ll be ready to go."

The Bills have surrendered 13 sacks in their last three games, and the line faces a tough test against the Jets in Week 8.

Rams S T.J. McDonald (concussion) misses practice Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(6:08 pm ET) Rams safety T.J. McDonald missed practice Wednesday due to a concussion. He'll have to pass the concussion protocol before being allowed back on the field.

Jets LB Quinton Coples expects bigger role in Week 8
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(5:55 pm ET) Jets linebacker Quinton Coples didn't start for the first time last week and played just 19 snaps, but he expects to return to a bigger role Sunday against the Bills, ESPN.com reports.

"It's back to what it was before Thursday," Coples said after practice Wednesday. "I'll be getting a lot more reps, and back out there a lot more than I was this past Thursday."

When asked if Coples would return to a starting role, coach Rex Ryan said, "Sure, why not?" before adding, "We play our players. We play all our guys."

Coples has recorded just five tackles and one sack in seven games this season.

Bills WR Marcus Easley returns to practice Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(5:46 pm ET) Bills wide receiver Marcus Easley returned to practice in a limited capacity Wednesday.

Easley has missed the last four weeks while recovering from a sprained MCL. If he's healthy enough to play Sunday, his presence on special teams could help counter the loss of Anthony Dixon on the unit, as he's expected to fill a much bigger offensive role in the wake of multiple injuries to the team's running backs.

Cordarrelle Patterson no longer on injury report
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(5:43 pm ET) Vikings second-year wideout Cordarrelle Patterson, who had dealt with a hip flexor strain since Week 5, is not listed on the team's injury report, according to 1500ESPN.com. Patterson has been a big disappointment, catching 19 passes for 213 yards and a touchdown in seven games.

Minnesota visits Tampa Bay on Sunday.

49ers WR Steve Johnson making most of limited snaps
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(5:30 pm ET) 49ers wideout Steve Johnson has played 31 percent of the team's offensive snaps, yet he ranks third on the team in catches (25) and receiving yards (315) and is tied for the team lead with three touchdown grabs, notes the San Francisco Chronicle. Colin Kaepernick has a sterling 127.8 passer rating when targeting Johnson, completing 25 of 31 throws, the report said.

Despite his success, Johnson might have a hard time earning more time because Michael Crabtree and Anquan Boldin are locked in as starters and Brandon Lloyd is a deep threat coaches want to get on the field, the paper said.

For now, the paper envisions Johnson continuing to split No. 3 receiver duties with Lloyd, who has played 38 percent of the snaps.

Rams WR Kenny Britt a non-participant Wednesday
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(5:14 pm ET) Rams wideout Kenny Britt did not practice Wednesday due to an ankle injury, reports the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. St. Louis visits Kansas City on Sunday.

Bears CB Kyle Fuller up in the air for Sunday
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(5:01 pm ET) Bears rookie corner Kyle Fuller sat out Wednesday's practice with a hip pointer and a broken right hand, and his status for Sunday's game at New England is uncertain, reports the Chicago Tribune. It would be a big blow to the Bears if they don't have Fuller, who's made 33 tackles and three interceptions in seven games.

Coach Marc Trestman has said Fuller does not need surgery and could play with a broken hand.

Saints RB Khiry Robinson held out Wednesday
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(4:34 pm ET) Saints running back Khiry Robinson was held out of Wednesday's practice due to a forearm injury. Robinson left after playing five snaps Week 7 at Detroit, but said he'll be fine for Sunday night's game against the Packers.

"I have a little boo-boo, but I'm straight," he said, per The New Orleans Advocate.
