Several Milwaukee-area architectural and construction firms put their skills to an unusual use on Tuesday as they created Milwaukee landmarks, such as the Mitchell Park Domes, out of unopened cans of food. Check out the attached slideshow to see some of the landmarks they built for a good cause.
The firms involved the "Canstruction" event were: Plunkett Raylish Architects, Milwaukee; Kahler Slater, Milwaukee; Eppstein Uhen Architects, Milwaukee; Zimmerman Architectural Studios, Milwaukee; Gilbane Construction Co., Milwaukee; and Hunzinger Construction Co., Brookfield.
Employees from each of the firms worked with the full cans of food to build models such as the Mitchell Park Domes, the Wisconsin Gas Co. building in downtown Milwaukee and the Klement's Racing Sausages. Each model contained at least 1,000 unopened cans of food. The event was hosted at the Bay Shore Town Center in Glendale by The Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center, Glendale, in partnership with Bayshore and its philanthropic arm Olshan Outreach.
The designs will remain on display through Oct. 29, at which time area families will help with the "de-canstruction" and all 8,000-plus cans of food will be donated to the Jewish Community Pantry.
