The Mean Green volleyball team won their conference opener against the University of Texas-El Paso on the road Friday night in five sets.
The first set was filled with back and forth lead changes, but after two kills in a row by junior outside hitter Carnae Dillard, North Texas would take the set 25-22.
“I thought we came out a little slow and when you come out slow it shows,” head coach Andrew Palileo said. “We struggled but if you can struggle and win I guess that’s okay for now.”
The second set was a different story for Mean Green, who were dominated throughout the set. UTEP would score six points in a row and took set two (25-16), tying the game at 1-1.
“We made a couple of mistakes at critical times but that’s what home court does,” Palileo said.
The Mean Green came back in the third set winning the set (25-20), but UTEP tied the game once again with a win in the fourth set.
The fifth and final set barely went to North Texas after someattack errors by UTEP. North Texas won the set (16-14) to win the game.
Next up, the team will travel to San Antonio to play the University of Texas-San Antonio Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
