In 2001, the inaugural Porsche Rennsport Reunion drew fans from around the country for three days of on-track action at Connecticut’s Lime Rock Park, to see legendary racing Porsches and the men who drove them. The event has grown in size and scope throughout the years, and in 2011, Rennsport Reunion IV moved west to Northern California’s Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The roughly-triennial event will return for its fifth iteration next October 9-11, and Laguna Seca will once again play host to this gathering of the Porsche faithful.

Though the first three events drew respectable crowds to Lime Rock, the West Coast is arguably a larger market for Porsche in the United States, and the move to Laguna Seca grew the number of both domestic and international visitors. In the words of Porsche Cars North America President and CEO Detlev von Platen, “While the Rennsport name from the beginning has become a staple fixture for international collectors and racers, choosing the Monterey Peninsula opened up this one-of-a-kind gathering to the many Porsche fans in California and beyond who were previously unable to attend. Approximately 40,000 spectators for the weekend, and a record number of race cars and participants, proved that our decision to come here was correct.”

As in past years, the Rennsport Reunion will attempt to cover the broad gamut of Porsche’s racing glory, ranging from the 550 Spyder of the 1950s (best known, perhaps, as James Dean’s last ride) through the all-conquering 917 series of the early 1970s and the dominant 956/962 of the 1980s. The 911 GT3 RSR and RS Spyder, which have carried the torch for Zuffenhausen in recent years, will be well-represented, and the event will also showcase the 919 LMP1 Prototype, a car that marks Porsche’s return as a serious competitor at Le Mans.

The Rennsport Reunion V will recognize the Porsche Club of America’s 60th anniversary, which also takes place in 2015. In addition to the three days of racing, the Reunion will feature a concours d’elegance for invited cars, as well as car shows and on-track events for PCA members, 1,300 of which turned out for Rennsport Reunion IV.

A 2015 date would be nice.

Howie, I guess you missed the third sentence of the opening paragraph: “The roughly-triennial event will return for its fifth iteration next October 9-11, and Laguna Seca will once again play host to this gathering of the Porsche faithful.”
