Gov. Rick Perry says UT Southwestern Medical Center and the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston will be Texas’ two designated treatment centers for Ebola patients.

All travelers arriving from Liberia, Sierra Leone or Guinea must pass through one of five major U.S. airports with heightened screening.

Nurse Nina Pham’s status has been upgraded from fair to good.

An American cameraman who contracted the disease while working in Liberia is now free of the virus, as is a Spanish nurse who contracted it while treating a patient in a Madrid hospital.

How do you get Ebola?

The virus is spread through direct contact with infected bodily fluids such as blood, saliva, urine, vomit and feces. Ebola isn’t spread through the air or through water.

What are symptoms of Ebola?

Ebola can cause fever, headache, diarrhea, vomiting, muscle aches and rash two to 21 days after infection.

DIAGNOSED IN TEXAS

More than 112 contacts and possible contacts of the three known Ebola victims are being monitored for signs of the disease. As of Tuesday, 60 people had completed surveillance and are considered Ebola-free.

Pham’s boyfriend is being monitored at Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas. Her dog, Bentley, is being kept in quarantine.

Some of the people who were potentially exposed through Vinson during her trip to Ohio must meet with physicians daily. Others have been asked to self-monitor. Only Vinson’s stepfather has been isolated.
