Brinker International sees increase in Q1 income to $33M

Brinker International, the Dallas-based restaurant company, reported earnings in the fiscal first quarter rose 16.3 percent to 50 cents per share, compared to 43 cents per share in the same quarter a year ago.
Net income in the quarter was $33 million, compared to $29.8 million in the same quarter a year ago.
Brinker is the owner of the Chili's Grill & Bar and Maggiano's Little Italy brands.
The company said that revenue in the quarter rose 3.4 percent to $686.9 million and that comparable restaurant sales rose 2.4 percent at company-owned locations.
Brinker said that sales increased 2.6 percent at company-owned Chili's locations and that traffic rose 0.1 percent. Comparable sales at Chili's franchise locations rose 1 percent.
Comparable sales at Maggiano's company-owned locations rose by 0.6 percent.
