Housing market in Maryland suburbs still rising

Unlike the across-the-board slowdown in Northern Virginia, housing sales across the Potomac in the Maryland suburbs remain strong, and prices were up from a year ago.
Long & Foster Real Estate Inc. says the number of houses and condos that sold in Montgomery County last month was up 1 percent from a year earlier. The median selling price in Montgomery County in September was $390,000, up 4 percent from a year ago.
There are also more sellers in Montgomery County, with active listings up 15 percent from September 2013. Those sellers last month got, on average, 97.8 percent of list price.
In Prince George's County, closed sales in September were down 2 percent from a year earlier, but the median selling price was up 11 percent from a year ago, at $225,000. Inventory in Prince George's County is down 28 percent from a year ago. Sellers last month got an average 98.6 percent of asking price.
Across the river, Long & Foster says sales were down in every Northern Virginia county from a year ago, except Arlington. Alexandria saw the biggest year-over-year price decline in Northern Virginia last month, with the median selling price down 11 percent from a year ago.
