It's that time of year to start thinking about the Kentucky Derby Festival.

A theme has been announced for the 60th Republic Bank Pegasus Parade and the Kentucky Derby Festival Inc. is accepting applications for participants for the 2015 parade, according to a news release.

The theme for the parade, which will be held Thursday, April 30, is the "Best of Louisville."

"We wanted to pay tribute to the community that has supported the festival for 60 years," Kentucky Derby Festival president and CEO Mike Berry said in the release. "Participants can decorate their units to reflect what they love about Louisville. Then, we'll showcase the best our city has to offer as the parade marches down Broadway in the spring."

The festival is looking for participants in equestrian, specialty unit, marching band, inflatable and float categories. Applications to be a part of the parade are due Jan. 31, 2015, and can be downloaded here.

Companies participating in the parade will compete for various awards based on originality, eye appeal, theme representation, animation, attention to detail and enthusiasm related to the "Best of Louisville" theme.

Republic Bank returns as the title sponsor of the parade for its 13th year.
