Microsoft Corp. said it's made a cloud computing deal with IBM Corp.

As part of the deal, the companies announced "they are working together to provide their respective enterprise software on Microsoft Azure and IBM Cloud."

"This relationship will give clients, partners and developers more choice in the cloud, helping them drive new business opportunities, spur innovation and reduce costs," the companies said in a statement.

"With this agreement more customers will be able to take advantage of the hyper-scale, enterprise performance and hybrid capabilities of Azure," said Scott Guthrie, executive vice president, cloud and enterprise, Microsoft, in a statement.

Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) CEO Satya Nadella explained the importance of cloud computing earlier this year when he said the world is becoming a "mobile first, cloud first" world when it comes to data.
