Police: Man tells officer ‘I’m not even going to lie to you’ before admitting he had drugs on him

Samuel Martinez

Staff writer Tim Cato reports:

A 22-year-old Mesquite man was arrested early Wednesday after he told a police officer during a traffic stop that he had heroin in one of his shoes, police said.

Samuel Martinez was charged with manufacturing and delivery of a controlled substance. He remains in the Dallas County jail in lieu of $50,000.

Martinez was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped for a traffic violation early Wednesday in the 4700 block of North Central Expressway. He was free on bail for a 2013 drug possession charge, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

The police officer who stopped the vehicle asked Martinez if he had any drugs on him.

“Officer, I’m not even going to lie to you. I want to show you respect and show you what kind of man I am,” Martinez responded, the warrant says.

Martinez took off his shoe to reveal a pill bottle containing about 3.3 grams of heroin. He told the officer that the driver of the vehicle had given it to him before they were pulled over. He said he hid it in his shoe because he was scared, police records show.

The car’s driver, 30-year-old George Castillo, was arrested for violating parole, police said.

The officer found a digital scale with drug resident and three straws that are used to snort heroin on Martinez. He said he used the scale to weigh gold at a jewelry store where he works, police records show.

Castillo remains in the Dallas County jail. His bail has not been set. A second passenger who was sitting in the backseat was not arrested.

40-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting 12-year-old relative

Ezequiel Martinez-Chavez

Staff writer Katelyn Hall reports:

A 40-year-old man has been accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a 12-year-old relative.

Ezequiel Martinez-Chavez has been charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child. He remains in the Dallas County jail in lieu of $50,000.

Family members reported seeing Martinez-Chavez kiss a 12-year-old girl on the mouth. When the girl’s godmother asked her about it, the girl said that Martinez-Chavez had touched her inappropriately. He was arrested Tuesday night after relatives called police to an Old East Dallas restaurant where Martinez-Chavez was, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

The girl told police that Martinez-Chavez had been touching her twice a week for a year. The sexual assaults often occurred in the girl’s room, with her 14-year-old brother sleeping nearby, police records show.

The girl also told police that Martinez-Chavez had exposed himself to her at least once, police records show.

DeSoto woman accused of beating daughter with a belt Tuesday outside a school

Staff writer Caitlyn Jones reports:

Shannetta Robinson

A DeSoto woman was arrested Tuesday after police said she assaulted her 12-year-old daughter with a belt outside the girl’s school.

Shannetta Robinson, 37, has been charged with injury to a child. Robinson was picking up her daughter Tuesday afternoon from Bishop Dunne Catholic School when Robinson pulled out a leather belt and started beating the girl, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

Robinson reprimanded the girl for missing tutoring earlier that day. The girl told police that Robinson beat her while they were in the car and then hit her and pulled her hair, police records show.

The child got out of the car and went inside the school to tell a faculty member, who called police. Robinson drove away but returned about 45 minutes later after police called her sister, police said.

When asked why she left the scene, Robinson told police that she was tired of dealing with her daughter, the warrant says. Robinson said she didn’t pull the girl’s hair or use a belt to hit her, police said.

The child had a cut on her right temple and blood clots in both eyes after the assault, police said. She was released to her aunt, and Child Protection Services is investigating.

Robinson’s daughter also told police that in the past her mother has removed all the furniture in her room and forced her to sleep on the floor as punishment, the warrant says.

According to court records, Robinson also had a civil protective order placed against her in 2013. She remains in the Dallas County jail. Her bail had not been set Wednesday morning.

Gregory McGee

This post has been updated.

A burglary suspect was arrested unharmed after Dallas police shot at him Wednesday during a foot chase.

Officers were called about 5:45 a.m. to investigate suspicious activity behind a dollar store at the corner of Audelia Road and Forest Lane.

Officer Michael Johnson noticed the back door of the store had been pried open and saw two suspects trying to flee, police said.

The officer then saw two men trying to flee. One jumped over a fence and remains at large. The other, identified as Gregory McGee, ran through the business toward the front door, which was locked.

McGee then hid behind the store counter and Johnson “gave several loud verbal commands for the suspect to show his hands,” police said.

When the suspect refused, the officer fired his weapon. Police did not say how many shots were fired. McGee was uninjured and was arrested, police said.

Johnson, an eight-year veteran, has been placed on leave pending an investigation. No officers were injured, police said.

Cotner said no weapon was recovered at the scene.

Charlie Song, who owns a dry cleaners in the shopping center, said there has been an uptick in criminal activity in the area in recent years.

“Last year, someone killed right there — daytime,” he said, pointing to the left.

He said he saw heavy police presence in the area shortly after 6 a.m. Wednesday morning. By 7, officers had taped off the parking lot, from the cleaners on one end of the shopping center to the Dollar Tree on the other end.

A silver Honda accord was parked inside the crime scene in front of the dollar store. Two people stood next to the car while police focused their investigation on the back alley and side of the shopping center.

“Here [is] very, very dangerous,” Song said, looking at the police cars parked in front of the cleaners. “Business down, down. When this happens, no customers come.”
