Brett Favre 'would have to go with' Peyton Manning over Tom Brady

By Will Brinson | NFL Writer

Brett Favre's been in the news a lot the last week thanks to Peyton Manning bypassing his career NFL touchdown record on Sunday night in Week 6.

The soon-to-be Hall of Famer joined the Doug Gottlieb Show and engaged in a lot of lively talk about his return to Green Bay -- currently delayed by Bart Starr's health -- as well as current quarterbacks. When he compared Tony Romo and Aaron Rodgers, Gottlieb worked in a savvy question about Tom Brady versus Peyton Manning.

Favre took the guy who just torched his record. But it didn't sound easy.

"Oh man. Tom has gotten it done lately with a lot less but … that's a toss up. I'd have to go with Peyton I believe," Rodgers said. "But you can't go wrong with either. Tom Brady, everyone's kind of written him off, and I think that's foolish to write him off. He's got a lot of good football left.

He's spot on about that: both guys are legendary quarterbacks. You can't go wrong regardless of which one you pick. (But you have to imagine Brady will smile and then get angry about the whole thing. I would.)

Gottlieb also spoke with Favre about his return to Green Bay, which he's planning to postpone because of Bart Starr's health.

We were hoping to have a sit-down interview with the different decades of football. Myself, Bart [Starr] and Aaron Rodgers. That would've been a great piece as well as take a picture after the game," Favre said. "I kind of invited myself and Bart for that but it would've been a great ceremony. Doesn't look like it will happen. I don't know if we'll make it. I'd rather make it with Bart. Obviously the retirement and the Hall of Fame will be in July — I'm really looking forward to that."

You can tell Favre gets LOTS of questions about his loyalty to the Packers; understandable given his decision to play for the Vikings at the end of his career. But he says he thinks "we're beyond" any issues "from a negative standpoint" when it comes to his interaction with Packers fans.

Even if it took him a while to root for the Pack after he left.

"After I was done playing I guess. Of course being a Viking I couldn't pull for anyone in our division," Favre said. "Once I retired — I mean I'm a Packer for life. When I was a Viking, I was a Viking. And that was hard for a lot of people to accept and it was awkward for me at first. I really enjoyed my stay there and I really enjoyed my 16 years in Green Bay as well."
