Joseph Weisenthal, the executive editor of the finance and technology news site Business Insider, will join Bloomberg to build a markets and finance news site and host a television show on the topic, the company said Tuesday.

Mr. Weisenthal, in an interview on Tuesday afternoon discussing his new position, said he would be “putting together a team of about 10 people,” adding, “We’re planning to just dominate markets news, make it a must-visit destination.” He said he would hire additional staff for the television show.

Mr. Weisenthal will join Bloomberg on Nov. 10, the company said.

The timing for the introduction of the markets and finance site, as well as the TV show, has not been determined, said Josh Tyrangiel, who oversees editorial content for Bloomberg Media. The company selected Mr. Weisenthal, he said, “because very few people have the kind of track record that he has of really deep knowledge of markets and finance and an intuitive feel for digital audiences.”

Mr. Weisenthal, a former analyst at an investment firm, is known for his fast, punchy and personal reporting and analysis. He started at Business Insider in 2008, not long after it was founded by another former stock analyst, Henry Blodget, and soon built a devoted following. He was promoted to executive editor last year.

Mr. Weisenthal was known there for rising at 4 a.m. and writing 15 or so stories in the course of a 16-hour day. He is also prolific on Twitter, where he has posted nearly 190,000 times — about 80 times a day — since he joined.

He is the latest in a string of more than a dozen prominent hires Bloomberg has made in recent months as part of an effort to relaunch its journalism. Those new hires include the political journalists John Heilemann and Mark Halperin, who lead Bloomberg’s politics coverage and host their own show, and Joshua Topolsky, a co-founder of the technology site The Verge, who now oversees Bloomberg’s digital brands.
