The Urban Land Institute has selected Klyde Warren Park in Dallas for one of its national awards bestowed in New York City on Tuesday at the group's annual fall meeting.

Klyde Warren Park was selected as the winner for the 2014 Urban Open Space award, which recognizes public spaces that have socially and economically enriched and revitalized their communities.

The 2-year-old, 5.2-acre deck park, which was designed by The Office of James Burnett, will receive $10,000 as part of the recognition. Park Chairman Jody Grant, his wife and park board member, Sheila, and Jim Burnett were in attendance to accept the award.

"It attests to the enormous impact that Klyde Warren Park has had on Dallas and demonstrates the power of public green space," Tara Green, president of Klyde Warren Park, said in a statement.

"By giving the community a central gathering space in the heart of our city, Klyde Warren Park has become one of Dallas' — and the region's — top destinations," she added.

Along with landscape architect Jim Burnett, Green recognized the architect of the restaurant and performance pavilion, Thomas Phifer and Partners, and Biederman Redevelopment Ventures, who programs the parks and usage concepts.

ULI selected Klyde Warren among five finalists for the Urban Open Space award, which was established in 2009 by former New York City planning commissioner Amanda M. Burden, who was the 2009 recipient of the ULI J.C. Nichols Prize for Visionaries in Urban Development.

The park is celebrating its two-year anniversary this week from Oct. 22-25 with evening performances and a family festival showcasing the park's popular programs. The park also recently was awarded LEED Gold certification.
