Students Return To School After Bee Attack

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Nearly two dozen children are returning to school on Wednesday after a bee attack on campus. The incident took place at Highland Middle School in the Eagle Mountain-Saginaw Independent School District, as a physical education class was outside doing activities.
A group of approximately 20 students stumbled onto a bee hive on Tuesday afternoon. The hive was hidden in an underground irrigation box. One of the sixth-grade students accidentally stepped on the box cover while playing soccer and the bees started swarming.
“Every kid was screaming, trying to get every one of those bees off their backs,” said one of the children who was attacked.
Ambulances took four students to the hospital for multiple bee stings. Some of the children were stung more than a dozen times. Several other kids were treated at the scene. Everyone is expected to be okay. The children are returning to their regular classes on Wednesday.
The school district had the hive destroyed. Officials are now testing the bees to see whether or not they were Africanized. If that is confirmed, then school officials will have to search the area for other hives.
