North Texas Schools Respond To Ebola Fears

GARLAND (CBSDFW.COM) - Many school districts across North Texas are doing their part to keep Ebola off of their campuses. This comes as health officials continue to track down the passengers who were on a Frontier Airlines flight with Ebola patient Amber Vinson, as she traveled from Cleveland to Dallas with a low-grade fever earlier this week.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is hoping to find all of those passengers, warn them about their possible exposure to the virus, and take the necessary precautions to ensure that the virus does not spread any further.

Some of those passengers are parents with kids attending North Texas schools. Crews have been at several area campuses in at least five districts to give them a thorough cleaning.
The Garland Independent School District has cleaned up Schrade Middle School and North Garland High School, and they will do it again over the weekend. That is because four students from these schools had parents on Vinson’s flight. However, those kids are not staying at home, and classes remain in session.
Silver Lake Elementary School and Grapevine Middle School in the Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District both have children who are remaining at home because of possible Ebola exposure. Likewise, the H-E-B Independent School District has placed an employee on leave.
The Eagle Mountain-Saginaw Independent School District said that a student entered voluntary isolation after a family member was found to have been on Vinson’s flight. Crews cleaned up Lake Pointe Elementary School twice on Thursday, but around 40 percent of the school’s students stayed at home regardless.
Finally, the Lewisville Independent School District said that the relatives of three students and a staff member were passengers on Vinson’s flight, however, they do not feel the need to quarantine anybody or close any campuses.
The number of school districts taking precautions could continue to go up as more passengers from Vinson’s flight are located.
