MILTON, Ga. — One of the most decorated golfers in school history had his career at North Texas come to an end in the final round of the NCAA Division I tournament Thursday.
Rodolfo Cazaubon shot an even-par 70 to finish in a tie for 32nd place as his magical senior season and collegiate career came to a close.
Cazaubon played nearly mistake-free golf in the third round, posting one birdie and only one bogey to go along with 16 pars. Cazaubon, who was playing for the national title as an individual, played against the nation’s best and was even par for the tournament with a score of 210.
He was one of only 37 golfers in the field of 156 to finish at even par or better.
The senior rewrote the Mean Green record books this year, winning three individual titles this season, which is the most in North Texas’ modern era dating back to 1975.
In addition, he was named to the All-Sun Belt Conference team for the fourth time, becoming just the second player in school history to be a four-time all-conference selection.
Along the way this season, he had the most top-10 finishes in a decade at North Texas. Cazaubon had seven top-10 finishes, the most since 2002-03.
Cazaubon has 14 top-10 finishes for his career and eight top-five finishes.
He was named the 2010 Sun Belt freshman of the year, marking the first time in the program’s storied history that has happened.
Cazaubon helped lead North Texas to back-to-back conference titles for the first time since 1974-75 and to the NCAA tournament in three straight seasons, the first time in 39 years that the Mean Green has made three straight NCAA appearances.
Cazaubon became the first individual player from North Texas to play for the national title in the modern era.
He is the son of Rodolfo and Marcela Cazaubon.
