Flower Mound center Balin Smith snaps to quarterback Logan Davis during the start of the third quarter of the Mound Showdown last week.

Lewisville and Flower Mound, both of which lost their football games last week, will try to rebound headed into Friday’s game.

Flower Mound (1-5, 0-4) lost 24-14 to Flower Mound Marcus in the Mound Showdown last week. Lewisville (2-3, 1-2) fell to Allen 49-13.

Lewisville coach Gregg Miller said that despite the loss to Allen, his team scored early and players stayed focused to continue the fight.

Lewisville is preparing for battle with a week’s work of homecoming festivities before the big game at Max Goldsmith Stadium. A big crowd is expected for the game, and the atmosphere will be festive. The team needs to work hard to keep distractions to a minimum while giving alumni a big game, he said.

“During the game, our kids didn’t get down [about the Allen loss] and tried their best to perfect their craft and trade,” Miller said. “This week, we’re looking forward to another great game.”

Miller said Lewisville will have to be at its best to beat Flower Mound. The defense must keep Flower Mound from putting points on the board, he said.

“I think their advantage is that their style of offense puts your kids on an island where you can’t get them help or coverage,” he said.

Miller said that the style can be effective but is risky because if the play goes wrong, Lewisville can exploit the error. He said his team’s advantage is simplicity of both offensive and defensive schemes that keep his players from being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Flower Mound’s Logan Davis completed 21-of-37 passes for 281 yards, but threw three interceptions in the Jaguars’ loss last weekend. Flower Mound coach Dane Johnson could not be reached for comment by press time.

On offense, the Fighting Farmers will try to control the clock and keep Flower Mound out of the end zone, Miller said.

Miller said that the game is an opportunity for the team to get its second district win as teams fight for the playoffs. He said he can’t remember how long it has been since the team was able to win two district games in a year. He still hopes to make it to the playoffs, given that every team in District 6-6A except Allen has at least one loss in district play.

“Everybody is really fighting over the third- and fourth-place spots right now,” he said. “Every win you get gets you a little closer at this point.”

Miller said his players are beat up but most will be able to play this week.

“The atmosphere will be electric and both teams will be out there working hard to get a district win,” he said. “It’s going to be a battle.”

There will be a tailgate party for alumni and friends before the game. On Wednesday night, the city showed up for the homecoming parade down Main Street.

“The parade has to be the most spirited thing left in high school football,” Miller said. “It’s amazing.”
