(July 22, 1942 - October 20, 2014)

Ethel "Freddie" Hess, 72, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on Monday October 20, 2014, after a year-long battle with illness. Freddie was born on July 22, 1942, to Robert and Ethel Howard in Oldham in the North of England. She was the eldest of four children: Rose, Robert, and Alan. She left school at a young age to take up a job to help support her family and began a life of hard work which culminated in retirement in 2006. In 1978 she left England and immigrated to Venice Beach, California, making the United States her new beloved home. Freddie was an avid darts player and it was there that she met her husband of 29 years, Indar Ranu. She always put family first, and she is survived by her three children and their spouses: Michelle and Paul, Andrew and Sue, and Daniel and Joni, as well as her five grandchildren: Jake, Conor, Abbey, and Liam with another grandson on the way. Freddie was a free spirited force of nature with a generous heart. Her smile was infectious and her laughter even more so. Her many friends and family scattered around the world will sorely miss her. Nowhere more so, perhaps, than where she and her husband made their home in Shady Shores, Texas, just up the road from her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. Freddie, you will always be in our hearts and we will carry you wherever we may go in life. We love you dearly and will feel your absence deeply. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2014, in the chapel of Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz & Son Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust, Denton, Texas. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society at http://donate.cancer.org .
