FORT WORTH — A man killed Sunday after walking across north and southbound lanes of traffic on West Loop 820 and White Settlement Road has been identified as 39-year-old Rocky Hataway.
Fort Worth police are still trying to determine why Hataway was walking across the highway, a Fort Worth police spokeswoman said Tuesday. West Loop 820 at Clifford Street in White Settlement was shut down in both directions for at least three hours late Sunday after Hataway was hit by one vehicle and died, said officer Tamara Pena, a police spokeswoman. Hataway was pronounced dead at 7:59 p.m., according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office. He was not trying to change a tire or get auto-related help, Pena said. On both sides of the highway, drivers trying to avoid him crashed, including one vehicle that rolled over. Two other cars were involved in accidents because of to “rubbernecking,” Pena said. Three people had minor injuries after the accidents, MedStar spokesman Matt Zavadsky said.Monica S. Nagy, 817-390-7792 Twitter:@MonicaNagyFWST
