Kevin Carr | Craft Beer Insider

Kevin Carr

A native of Dallas, Kevin has a diverse background in several entrepreneurial ventures over the past 20 years. As an avid homebrewer for over 15 years, he developed a passion for quality craft beer.

While traveling on behalf of a software company, he would always make a point to seek out local craft beer offerings. However, as much as he loved his hometown, he was disappointed there were no craft breweries at the time in Dallas. Once, while sitting in a popular local bar, Kevin overheard a conversation that would set the course of what would become Community Beer Co. A business traveler much like himself walked into the bar and asked the bartender, “What local beers do you have on tap?” The answer floored him. She said, “We have Shiner Bock.” Now Shiner is a good beer, but it is definitely not local.

This prompted him to research what it would take to open a brewery. That research took him to beer-centric cities such as Denver and Portland to better understand the culture, industry and inner workings of running a brewery. He then began what would be a nearly three-year process in opening said brewery. With a plan in place, he was on track to opening in September of 2011. However, the brewery’s first location fell through, which delayed opening by more than a year. After finding its home in the Design District on Stemmons Freeway just across from the American Airlines Center, Community Beer Co. was able to open in January 2013.

Today, Community Beer Co. delivers on Kevin’s vision of what he wanted the brewery to represent — providing quality local craft beer to our community and offering a place for the community to gather, while being stewards of our community by supporting charities and the arts.

In the first year-and-a-half of operation, Community Beer Co. has earned several awards for its brews, most notably gold medals two of the world’s most prestigious beer competitions, Great American Beer Festival and The World Beer Cup, in its first participation. Other awards include multiple medals from the US Open Beer Championship, Los Angeles International Beer Competition, and the US Beer Tasting Championships.
