Paper carrier dies; others injured are out of hospital

Denton County’s chief death investigator on Tuesday identified April Moore, a 30-year-old Sanger resident, as the victim of a head-on collision Monday.

Moore, a carrier for the Denton Record-Chronicle, was traveling westbound on FM455 when she crossed over into the eastbound lane of traffic and struck a 2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor head-on shortly before 4 p.m. near Sanger High School, according to Sgt. Lonny Haschel, spokesman for the Department of Public Safety.

Moore was transported to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton where she was pronounced dead after suffering multiple traumatic injuries from the crash, Troy Taylor, Denton County’s chief death investigator, said Tuesday.

Haschel said Moore was driving a 2001 Hyundai Accent with two children — a 3-year-old boy and an 8-year-old girl — in the back seat.

The boy was transported via ground ambulance to Denton Regional Medical Center and has been treated and released. The girl was transported via air ambulance to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth. She has also been released, authorities said Tuesday.

Reece Dunn, 42, of Pilot Point, who was driving the Mitsubishi, was transported via air ambulance to Medical Center of Plano. He, too, was treated and released, Haschel said.

Why Moore crossed over into the eastbound lane of traffic is under investigation.
